Simplicity, Complexity or Simplexity
years already and Scanos is still going strong. This is a NEW web site for you which replaces the 15 year old ageing version. Looking at the evolution of the orthopaedic market over these 18 years the words which spring to mind are continuity and complexity and unfortunately surgeons tend to think that complexity means quality. The sad part of the story is that products are now being manufactured lord knows where and still claim to be of high quality. They look the same but beleive us they are not.
Two examples, basic examples : femoral heads and bone anchors.
1. Femoral heads
It has been evidenced by Registers, clinical results and mechanical tests which type and diameter of femoral heads have the best results. However nowhere does one talk about sphericity or roughness! Two femoral heads can look alike but under an electronic microscope one can see two worlds apart. A beautiful and brilliant head or a simple disaster
2. Bone anchors
These are a sort of medical DIY product. The tendency is also to make them more and more complex the complexity of which in no way matches their performance. Anchors have become resorbable and so have the sutures. They have also become impactable….now would you hang up your mother-in-law’s portrait using a plastic peg with plastic attachments….? Oh you say some do! Maybe one can understand why!
Now to all this there is an in-between, simplexity… products keeping their proven qualities whilst yet incorporating improvements conferring enhanced performances and good long term clinical results.
Simplexity has been the basis of all BIOMED-SCANOS products since we deigned our first implants back in 1998.
